back to the future
“Go see it! You will be amazed and enthralled!”
“Finn Ross's videos bring everything together, mesmerising you every time the DeLorean speeds up to 88mph.”
The 1985 pop-culture phenomenon, Back to the Future, is brought to the stage by the films original writers Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis with music and lyrics by the films original composer and lyricist Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard. The show is faithful to the movie while allowing room for theatrical invention. The world of Hill Valley is meticulously re-created. It occasionally morphs into something magical and crazy when Doc has a moment of inspiration, or we travel along with the iconic Delorian all the way to 88mph.
The Video design has 2 main roles in the show. We explode the ordinary world of the show into big fantastical worlds inspired the science fiction of both 1985 and 1955 when ever Doc breaks the 4th wall and sings to the audance. When Marty gets into the car, we move the world along with the Delorian. Video is a massive part of the show, delivered through a large 3.9mm LED wall upstage and projection onto a gauze downstage allowing us to wrap the action in the video.
The show is driven by Disguise GX2 system. It makes extensive use of Notch as real-time content and also as a work platform. You can read more about our work with Notch in this blog post.
