Mahagonny is an imaginary land of sin and commerce where the ultimate crime is being unable to pay your bar tab.  This satirical opera follows Jimmy, who heads to Mahagonny in hope finding of freedom but ultimately finds only his own execution.

In this production the opera’s two acts each had a different set.  The first act took place in a container truck that expanded and contracted, opened and closed, and also rotated. This set was fully video-mapped using encoders and a d3 media server.

The second act took place against a backdrop of a 15-metre-high wall of shipping containers that rose out of the stage as the act began.

Throughout both acts, video was a constant presence, underlining the key themes of the production. Embedded screens displayed Brechtian slogans, broadcast scenes of destruction and debauchery, and also showed in-world advertising and footage from live cameras.
